Inside Scoop on ACT Testing!
By:
When do students typically take the ACT test?
Juniors typically take the tests in the Spring (April, May, June) of their Junior year and may try a 2nd or 3rd time in the fall of their Senior year (Sept and Oct). Those are the most popular test dates. Students normally start applying for colleges in the fall of their Senior year.
What is the highest math level tested on the ACT?
The ACT tests up trigonometry.
If my child takes the test too early, will they score lower on the math portion because they have not learned the concepts yet?
The concern by parents of testing too early before math concepts are learned is valid. For those students, the test can be taken in June after their Junior year and then again in the fall. But then they only get 2 chances, where many people like to leave themselves 3 opportunities to take the test.
Is there a penalty for wrong answers on the ACT?
No.
Are all ACT test scores sent to schools?
No. There is a "Score Choice" option. Students can choose which schools will receive their scores and which scores the schools will see.
When is the best time to register for the ACT test?
The best time to register is at least four weeks before the test at www.ACT.org.
Does tutoring help increase test scores?
With College Nannies and Tutors one-on-on ACT Test Prep Services, which focus on both content and test-taking skills, we have seen an average of a 3-5 point increase on ACT scores for our students. Ninety-five percent of the students who have worked with a College Tutor have improved their score.

Has it Hit You Yet?
By: amber
Ah, can you feel it yet? The feeling of freedom that grows a little closer with each passing day. Graduation is closer than ever! Can you even remember your first day of high school? Or is it all just kind of blur together by now? Who knew that four years of your life could fly by so quickly? Then again, for some of you, I'm sure high school may have felt like the longest four years of your life. Either way, the end is drawing near. These last few weeks are all about you. Filled with prom, graduation practices and parties, finals, and lots of food, what more could a graduating senior ask for?
But let's be honest; the end isn't just fun and cheers. There are a lot of changes about to occur in your life whether you are going away for college, staying home, or getting a job. No matter what you do during the next couple of years, nothing is ever going to be the same as it was in high school.
Has the "Wow, this is the end. What am I going to do with myself" feeling hit you yet? It hit me a couple of weeks ago. I was sitting down for dinner with my family when the conversation drifted to the soon approaching summer. As we all began comparing our personal schedules and plans, it was then that it hit me. I was graduating and would be attending college in about four months! This realization nearly knocked me over. Me? Going to college? So soon?
If this realization hasn't hit you yet, just know that it is coming. We're nearing the end of our high school experience. We're about to begin a whole new chapter of our lives. Just let the idea of change and new opportunities sink in for a while. It's a great feeling. Once you feel you've wrapped your mind around the reality of the next couple weeks, you'll realize that your journey is just beginning.

Be Sure to Do it All!
By: amber
Last night, I attended my school's Senior/Parent Night. This being one of the last times my class and I will be together before graduation, the night truly meant a lot. The program consisted of reflections from students and parents, musical ensembles, and a handful of academic and athletic awards. Every senior present participated in the ceremony, and it was such an unforgettable night.
While I'm not sure every school has a night like this, if your school does I encourage you to attend it! In fact, I encourage you to attend every school event happening before you graduate. I'm just beginning to realize this, as I'm sure a number of you are, but I'm not going to be around next year to enjoy all of the events that I've come to love at school. I won't be around for the talent show, plays, or musicals. I won't be able to cheer on my school's sports teams. And I ultimately won't be around my closest high school friends any more. Things are just not going to be the same.
Because of that harsh reality check, I'm determined to squeeze out as much high school as I can during these last couple of weeks. While I may never be able to attend high school again, I can sure make memories that I will always be able to keep with me. And so can you! So get out there and do the same! Even if it's something you've never even considered attending, just show up!
With our high school experience winding down, we really cannot afford to miss out on anything. Before it's too late, make sure you spend time with the school, the community, and the friends that in just a couple of months you won't be seeing every day anymore. These are your last final weeks... make the most of them.
